A Knowledge Interface System for Information and Cyber Security Using Semantic Wiki
2018
Resilience against information and cyber security threats has become an essential ability for organizations to maintain business continuity. As bulletproof security is an unattainable goal, organizations need to concentrate to select optimal countermeasures against information and cyber security threats. Implementation of cyber risk management actions require special knowledge and resources, which especially small and medium-size enterprises often lack. Information and cyber security risk management establish knowledge intensive business processes, which can be assisted with a proper knowledge management system. This paper analyzes how Semantic MediaWiki could be used as a platform to assis…
Case study for 3G/UMTS services and billing methods
2001
The 3G/UMTS-networks and services will provide a wide range of telecommunication services. To achieve, this, we need a new view to networks, network services and service abilities. The amount of service providers in the 3G networks will be at least the same than in the present Internet. The amount of users in the 3G networks will overgrow the user amount of Internet forming a global worldwide communication society. This paper discusses customer billing in the 3G world. There are some main issues that are not very, clear to all 3G service and network providers, which however, should be settled before, 3G networks are operational. One of the most important matters is the QoS (Quality of Servi…
Domain Specific Case Tool for ICT-Enabled Service Design
2014
One major problem in service design is the limited availability of information gathered during the development process. In particular, information on end-user requirements is difficult for designers, developers, and maintainers to access. Here, we provide a mechanism that supports the gathering and modeling of various types of information throughout the service and software development life cycle. As various existing tools focus on a particular part of the life cycle, essential information is not available, or it is more difficult to obtain in later stages. The linkage between information collected in the different stages is often lost. The implemented tool support enables the modeling of r…
Modular Service Design of Information Technology-Enabled Services
2022
The literature has proposed ways to modularize information-technology-enabled services (ITeS) with limited success. We argue that applying design principles (DPs) can address this gap and revitalize the service modularization literature. With a qualitative research study, we develop exemplar DPs and a set of prioritized DPs for ITeS. We contribute to the literature by demonstrating how complex service systems, specifically ITeS, can be modularly designed. Our DPs show how different ITeS design elements or service attribute combinations impact the outcome-driven design of service experience. Based on the findings, we present a modular service design framework and a service design method tha…
Semantic Web Services for Smart Devices in a “Global Understanding Environment”
2003
Various Web resources and services are usually assumed to be used and accessed by human users (current Web) or by software agents on behalf of human users (emerging Semantic Web). However industry emerges also a new group of “users”, which are smart industrial devices, robots or any other objects, which can be adapted to the (Semantic) Web environment. They would need special services for e.g. online condition monitoring, information provisioning, remote diagnostics, maintenance support, etc. The goal of this paper is to specify main requirements to Web services that automatically follow up and predict the performance and maintenance needs of field devices. Semantic Web enabled services for…
Systemic Development of Service Innovation
2015
This chapter explores the intrinsic characteristics of services and service systems and presents systemic approach to produce service innovations. The chapter consists of elaborating the characteristics of services and the principles of systemic development, discussing service matrixes, service systems, service strategies and business models, and special challenges related to the development of services and service innovations. Services are always produced in service systems consisting of combination of service personnel and information systems. Customers are involved in these systems by interacting with the front end of service organization. The key issue in service development and innovat…
Semantic Web Services for Smart Devices Based on Mobile Agents
2005
Among traditional users of Web resources, industry has a growing set of smart industrial devices with embedded intelligence. Just like humans, they need online services (i.e., for condition monitoring, remote diagnostics, maintenance, etc.). In this paper, we present one possible implementation framework for such Web services. Such services should be Semantic Web enabled and form a Service Network based on internal and external agents’ platforms, which can host heterogeneous mobile agents and coordinate them to perform needed tasks. The concept of a “mobile service component†assumes not only exchanging queries and service responses, but also delivering and composition of a service pro…
Service policies of German manufacturers: Critical factors in international competition
1992
Abstract German companies perform well in export markets, based on product quality and technology. But the competitive advantages and value-added of service are expected to grow sharply in the coming decade — especially product-focused service. Hermann Simon has identified ‘Hidden Champions’ in Germany — companies like Heidelberg Printing Machines, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which integrate market and technology as equal driving forces and provide quick and reliable customer service. But there is much room for improvement in service provided by German manufacturing companies. They could upgrade their design and marketing of service, and apply better quality control such as setting quantitative …
The four spheres of value co-creation in humanitarian professional services
2021
PurposeThe study focuses on the value co-creation processes in humanitarian professional services provision, analysing the key enabling factors of beneficiaries' participation, involved in long-term integration programmes (L-TIPs).Design/methodology/approachThrough an in-depth case study, the research looks at the practices of value co-creation in humanitarian professional services, considering both the perspectives of the professional service provider and beneficiary.FindingsIn professional services beneficiary's participation affects the success of the L-TIPs outcomes. Participation's enablers can be classified into four different spheres, each belonging to different elements of professio…
